The 2022 season became a nightmare for Russell Wilson in his professional career. He couldn’t live up to the early hype created in Broncos country and recently missed a game against the Cardinals, brewing rumors of a possible exclusion in the remaining games. However, according to the latest updates from the coaching management, he will return on Christmas eve.

Ever Since Russell Wilson stepped foot inside the NFL arena, the veteran happened to be a consistent player, barely missing games in the regular season.

But this season became an exception, with the former Super Bowl Champion missing a game against the New York Giants and the Arizona Cardinals this week. He was given extra rest following a concussion against the Chiefs in Week 14. Well, it didn’t affect the team in any manner, instead helping the franchise register their fourth win of the season.

Backup Brett Rypien covered for Wilson and led the team to a 24-15 victory at the Empower Field. This led fans to speculate Wilson missing the remaining games as nothing else remains to save the campaign. But head coach Nathaniel Hackett refused to give up on his franchise quarterback and vowed to bring him back against the Rams matchup.

“Russell is going to be playing next week, but I thought Brett did a really good job,” Hackett said in the post-game press conference. Previously, Hackett mentioned that it was a collective decision considering several factors. Although initially, Wilson struggled to accept it, he realized the importance later on. Anyways the decision turned out to be a chance for Rypien to prove his worth.

Brett Rypien has been associated with the Broncos for the past four seasons. And during this tenure, he could only start three games of his career. The two of which came this year. After 2020, Rypien started the game against the New York Giants, resulting in a loss.

While his latest matchup against the Cardinals added one more feather to his success. He completed 21 of 26 passes for 197 yards with a touchdown and an interception. “Any time you get an opportunity, it’s a blessing,” Rypien said on Friday via Broncos’ official page.

“I’ve been here four years now. I played for four years in high school, and four years in college. I was used to playing every single week. It feels more special, for sure, when you get an opportunity,” he added. It will be interesting to see how the management utilizes this asset in the coming year.
