It?s been a long time since Mr. Irrelevant has been unavailable in the headlines. But, this season, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is poised to make a huge comeback. Despite being picked as the last player in the 2022 NFL draft, he has etched his name into one of the most successful rookie quarterbacks. But due to his injuries, he was unable to contribute fully to the team which he intends to do in the next one. At least the update says so.

During his injury, last year in December, it seemed as though Purdy’s career had been derailed for months. However, his unwavering determination to don the helmet and step back onto the field never wavered. Now, according to the buzz around town and the words of the 49ers’ GM, it appears that Purdy is ready to take up the battle, as he aims to make a comeback this year.

According to freelance writer Grant Cohn, who shared the update on his YouTube channel today, ?Good news 49ers fans Brock Purdy has officially started throwing again for the first time since he had UCL surgery in March.? Cohn reported that the general manager John Lynch?personally witnessed Purdy’s throwing session and expressed optimism about his progress, stating that Purdy is performing well. Cohn even quoted, ?He?s the only quarterback on the team that they know they can win with.? However, Cohn also expressed a cautious stance, mentioning that he will fully believe in Purdy’s comeback when he sees it coming to fruition.

According to a report from NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero, Brock Purdy had his first throwing session on Monday, marking an important milestone in his recovery. In response to Purdy’s session, the 49ers general manager expressed great encouragement, stating, ?He’s just had one session thus far, but we’re incredibly encouraged by that.?

Lynch went on to mention that Purdy is meeting all the necessary milestones in his rehabilitation, which is a testament to his diligent efforts. However, Lynch also expressed concern, stating that they don’t know what will happen next. While they hope that Purdy will be ready for training camp, whether he will be fully prepared for the regular season remains a question mark for the team.

Purdy?s UCL repair surgery

Purdy suffered an elbow injury in the first quarter of San Francisco’s 31-7 loss against the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game. The injury occurred when Purdy dropped back to pass on a second-down play during the team’s first drive, but was hit by Haason Reddick, an edge rusher for the Philadelphia Eagles. The hit targeted Purdy’s right elbow as he was in the motion of throwing the ball.

Despite the injury, Purdy returned to the game during the third quarter. This was because the team’s previous quarterback, Josh Johnson, had suffered a concussion and was unable to continue playing after being tackled and hitting his head on the ground.

Purdy’s performance during that season was commendable, especially considering he was thrust into the lineup due to injuries suffered by starting quarterback Trey Lance and backup Jimmy Garoppolo. Unfortunately, Purdy’s injury incident resulted in the 49ers missing out on a potential spot in the Super Bowl. Originally scheduled for February 22, Purdy’s surgery to repair a torn UCL was postponed due to ongoing inflammation. Dr. Keith Meister, Purdy’s physician, advised delaying the surgery. Eventually, Purdy underwent the procedure on March 10 of this year.
