Deion Sanders has always been in the headlines. As a football player, it was for winning the Super Bowl with teams like the San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys. However, as a college football coach, he is garnering more and more controversial attention. When he first made the switch from Jackson to Colorado, he made a very memorable speech. After it went viral on social media, he faced a lot of flak from fans. However, this time Coach Prime has outdone himself.
Recently Coach Prime’s actions have been flagged by some big organizations. Organizations like the ‘Freedom from Religion Foundation’ have raised objections to Prime’s actions with his team. However, one might wonder what exactly would a college football coach have done to garner controversy and a response from an organization like the FFRF.

It appears that Sanders is caught between two religious groups. This all started when the ‘Freedom from Religion Foundation’ sent a letter to the university, asking the administration to essentially stop preaching Christian scripture. The organization cited a time when Coach Prime prayed with his team during a meeting. They mentioned that they want the administration to remind Sanders that he is a football coach and not a pastor, as per Fox News. However, as FRRF was against Sanders’ actions, one organization stood in his support.

The school assured FFRF that Sanders was clear on what his duties are. However, the First Liberty Institute came to Sanders’ defense. They cited legal precedence and stated that Sanders has a constitutionally protected right to engage in religious expression. The Institute went on to mention that the letter sent by the FFRF seemed misstated. Interestingly, Sanders himself has credited a lot of success to his religious beliefs and has publicly stated so as well.
While coach Prime had mentioned the Prime effect, this might not have been it. However, some interesting changes have happened for the college since Coach Prime arrived.
Is this the true power of the Prime effect?
