Jackson State University took a big gamble when they hired Deion Sanders as head coach. Coach Prime had the reputation of an NFL legend, but as a coach had nothing to show for. However, in the three years that he was at the position at JSU, their unit was wildly successful. While the Tigers won two Southwestern Athletic Conference championships, coach prime had become a dearly beloved figure for the University. He also garnered a lot of respect for his work and commitment to the HBCU. But when the 55-year-old announced his switch to Colorado University, they placed tags of a sellout on him. Now the NFL legend has fired back.

The former NFL DB appeared on Shannon Sharpe’s podcast, Club Shay Shay. There he addressed the criticism and the tag of sellout that has been sent his way after leaving JSU. “The dream is that I want equality right.” Added Sanders. “The dream that was I wanted these kids to get notoriety and get to the NFL, we did that right… dream was that we want better facilities and we’re overlooked and under-funded, I’ve established that and we made strides towards that OK. The dream was that I believe that we could win I believe that we could graduate at a certain rate I believe that we could treat these kids as and raise them to be young men that was the dream.”
The former Cowboys‘ player made sure to remind everyone that his dream still remains, and he has not sold out on those ideals. “why did you stop dreaming? The dream continues.” Said Sanders. In addition to his defense, Coach Prime even asked all those throwing sticks and bones at him to actually give back to HBCUs. Highlighting the fact that most of his critics aren’t even doing anything themselves to help these colleges and students.
Fans agree with Deion Sanders
Many people have since come to the support of Sanders. Voicing how the headlines calling the coach a sellout are unjustified.
Prime is not a sellout… This is ridiculous

This fan focused on the positives that Coach Prime established during his time at JSU.
HOF Coach Sanders brought more attention to Jax State and HBCU's in 2.5 years than I have ever seen in my 48 years on this earth. Carry on smartly!

While this fan questioned if there was anything he could have down to avoid the tag.
Serious question here. What would he have had to do to not be considered a sellout?

This person does not think there was anything that could have avoided this situation.
If you support Prime, please stop wasting your breath. Even if he left for a PWI after his contract was up (one more year), he would have still been labeled a sellout and exploiter of Black athletes.

Among all the supporters, this one even commends Prime Time for how he has handled the situation.
“Sellout” term isn’t warranted or accurate. Summary of the situation: Deion not having attended an HBCU, ran into the administrative quagmire that many of us have endured and he got fed up and left after 3 years.

But the opportunity will bring a great chance for Deion to work with better talent and coach with more resources. For CU, they will hope the former SWAC coach of the year can replicate his magic and take them back to the glory days.
