After a successful spell in the NFL in recent years, the 2020 season proved to be an eye-opener for the Houston Texans and their massive fanbase. The AFC South franchise slumped to a third-place finish in their division with a 4-12 record.
With no wins in their opening 4 games, the Texans parted ways with GM/HC Bill O’Brien. Former Baltimore Ravens assistant David Culley was eventually appointed as the new Head Coach earlier this year.
Culley started his NFL career coaching career in 1994 as Wide Receivers coach Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After subsequent spells with Pittsburgh Steelers, Philadelphia Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs, and Buffalo Bills, Culley joined AFC Baltimore Ravens in 2019.

After his initial appointment as Houston Texans Head Coach, David Culley immediately flew to Tennessee to meet his 94-year-old father. Here’s his brief statement on that meeting and how it felt like the ultimate father-son moment.
He said, “It meant more to me to make it for him to be able to say, ‘David, I’m so proud of you’, he says, I’m telling you, it’s almost like right now he is saying like, he’s 94.
“He said, ‘Now I believe I can make it to 100 because of the way I feel right now, because of what’s just happened to you. So this franchise right here, the McNair families said, ‘Listen, you take the next plane’.

“They sent me and my wife to Tennessee right then, and soon as I got off of that private plane, it wasn’t commercial. It was private. Soon as I got off of that plane, I went directly to my dad’s house.
“He was asleep. I woke him up and we stayed up from 12 o’clock to two o’clock, talking about what just happened. And I felt something there, I felt validated.
“I felt validated that my dad, my dad had seen that. So again, I couldn’t be more elated to be in this position,” Culley said earlier today.

On a more realistic note, the Texans’ job was arguably the toughest vacant coaching position available this offseason. JJ Watt left the franchise earlier this year. As things stand, franchise quarterback Deshaun Watson is also on his way out of Houston.
