After accepting a $160 million contract with the New York Giants for four years, quarterback Daniel Jones is making the headlines for turning down a promising stint with Netflix. The Giants’ quarterback gained immense hype for his contract, where a few NFL analysts were skeptical about his on-field prowess, concluding Jones’ contract as overpaid. 

But in the recent turn of events, the Quarterback series on Netflix, featured Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins, and Marcus Mariota. The series took the audience into the intricacies of these quarterbacks’ on-field and off-field life. Subsequently, nationwide NFL fans showered immense appraisal for the series, and post witnessing success with season 1 of 8-episode docuseries, makers approached Jones to get featured in season 2 of the series. However, Jones’ denial to be Mahomes’ successor is creating a frenzy in the NFL fraternity.

The Quarterback series was released on July 12 and since the release, the series stamped its place in the top ten shows on Netflix. Moreover, as reported by Sports Business Journal, the series was tagged as the fastest start for any sports documentary series on Netflix. Following the success, the executive producer of the “Quarterback” Peyton Manning revealed that he is aiming for the second season of the series.

Where several quarterbacks were approached to be featured in the Series, and Jones was one of them. Highlighting Jones’ denial, the “Talkin’ Giants” Twitter account shared a video of Jones writing, “Daniel Jones declined to be on season 2 of Netflix’s Quarterback.” In the video Jones stated that he was approached for the show, but he denied the offer. 

Furthermore, several NFL quarterbacks were approached for the show. Despite the show’s success, a considerably increased number of quarterbacks denied the offer.

Promising quarterbacks like Justin Fields, Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts, Trevor Lawrence, Jimmy Garoppolo, Dak Prescott, Sam Howell, and Matthew Stafford have already turned down the offer to feature in season 2 of “Quarterback”. The denial to feature on the $187 billion worth streaming platform Netflix, gains the same equation as HBO’s “Hard Knocks” where franchises avoid getting featured on the show, due to its concept of revealing competitive information.

However, as the Netflix series gained immense popularity and success, it can be said that the audience will eagerly demand the sequel. The makers are on a quest to select Mahomes, Cousins, and Mariota’s successor for this successful series, so they could share more NFL-centric stories, providing a closer lens to the lives of these athletes.
