It’s been a rough couple of weeks for Dak Prescott and Jerry Jones’ Dallas Cowboys. The two parties have failed to agree on a long-term contract in the offseason. This means that Prescott will continue to play on the $31.4 million franchise tag this season.

Dak Prescott and Dallas Cowboys have a crucial season ahead of them

While appearing on the First Things First podcast, NFL analyst Nick Wright weighed the pros and cons for the Cowboys ahead of the start of the 2020 season.

“This should be the best Dallas Cowboys team since 2016. In order for Dak Prescott to lead the Cowboys to the Super Bowl, I believe they are going to go to have to be the No. 1 seed once again.

“I have the Cowboys at 11-5, the number one seed is 12-4. So that means that it’s in play for them, it’s possible for them. But how do they get there? How do they get the one seed which is the only place that you can get a bye?

“Dak and the Cowboys’ offense as a whole, (are) gonna have to be a hell of a lot better against good teams. Dak, against the Giants and Washington (13-3), I mean that is, that’s damn near Patrick Mahomes level.

“Against the rest of the NFL (27-21), it’s good, I mean it’s not bad,” Wright said.

The Cowboys got lucky by bringing in the highly-rated CeeDee Lamb in the 2020 NFL Draft. Can Prescott and Lamb lead the Cowboys to a potential Super Bowl appearance against all odds?

“Problem for Dallas last year – they couldn’t beat any good teams. So with the team they brought back into the fold, the drafting of CeeDee Lamb, the upgrade at the head coach spot.

“To me, Michael, if the Cowboys are going to get back to the Super Bowl, for the first time in a quarter-century, it has to start with not just making the playoffs but soaring into the playoffs at 12-4 or 13-3.
