It is the Dallas Cowboys vs The mighty Cap. This off-season, America’s team, and its front office will be busy trying to accommodate their players’ remuneration structures. First, it was reported that they’re planning to trade or release Amari Cooper. And now, reports suggest that the Cowboys plan to restructure their star QB’s contract.
Dak Prescott, the leader of America’s team, is under the restructure radar. The Cowboys are already over the cap by a whopping $21 million. And it will be tough to keep the band together without making some changes.

The Cowboy’s QB signed a 4-year $160 million contract last year. However, the former Offensive Rookie of the year had to hold out for the off-season to get the ink on the paper. But once that was done, the QB has sat right back in the Cowboy’s driver seat. This year will be the first full off-season for the coach, Mike Mcarthy, and QB to work together. Something prevented by the contract negotiations in the last off-season.
Dallas Cowboys can restructure Prescott’s contract
It seems that the contract came with an option to restructure for the 2022 season. And since the Dallas team faces a steep cap issue, it is not surprising to see them go for it. It will save the Cowboys $15.1 million in cap space. Precious room for accommodation.

Other than that, there are also rumors floating around about their star defensive player Demarcus Lawrence exiting. Again, to make cap space. It seems the Dallas Cowboys have bitten more than they can chew.
Dallas started off superbly this season. But could not make it out of the wild card round. If Cooper goes, the Cowboys might think that Michael Gallup along with a draft pick can fill up the gap. But who will fill in for Demarcus Lawrence? Those are big shoes to step in. As far as the running back situation is concerned, Zeke’s cap hit will sting the Cowboys. But will Zeke add value at that level?
And the situation does not look like getting any better next year. Tony Pollard will enter his contract year. And with the way the two Running Backs are performing, it seems Pollard will also be due a payday at the end of this season. But that is for next year. This year, it is still unknown what will remain of America’s team in aftermath of this restructuring process.
