Colin Kaepernick last played an NFL game in 2017. The 34-year-old QB has expressed his desire to return to the game. However, he has found no takers. Earlier, Kaepernick played six seasons for the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL. His long break from the NFL ruled him out from the radar of most teams. They consider his lack of recent experience a key reason for ruling against his favor.
NFL analyst and Cowboys legend Michael Irvin echoed the same sentiment when asked about Kaepernick going to Dallas. He asked to leave that matter alone, as he was sick of it. The 56-year-old finds no relevance in bringing the former QB back, as he does not have any recent experience.

“Leave that alone. Stop talking to me about going inside Colin Kaepernick. I’m sick of it. Stop dude and play ball in five years. I need somebody to play quarterback that has seen a live NFL within the last three years. It ain’t wait on nothing,” he said.
When Colin Kaepernick was considered for the Dallas deal?
Cowboys starter QB Dak Prescott suffered a serious hand injury in the opener loss against the Buccaneers. It led to talks about bringing an experienced QB as his replacement. Some analysts suggested Kaepernick’s name as a potential replacement.
However, the debate didn’t last long, as Cooper Rush established his presence in a big way. Since his arrival, the Cowboys ticked all the boxes and won three games. At present, the team is happy and is undecided about the next step once Prescott returns to the team. As a result, talks about Kaepernick’s return did not take off at any level.

Will Kaepernick return to the NFL?
NFL analyst Stephen A. Smith earlier asked the Cowboys to replace Prescott with Kaepernick, due to his experience. However, Dallas owner Jerry Jones did not react positively to the suggestion. The 34-year-old is keen for a return but has found no buyers from any teams.
The experienced campaigner worked out for the Raiders during the off-season but remained unsigned for the 2022 season. Hence, his chances of playing this season are pretty low, for now.
