NFL franchise Dallas Cowboys will be tinkering on their offense this upcoming NFL season, and head coach Mike McCarthy is making preparations. McCarthy will be looking to test the versatility of the players at his disposal after trading away WR Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns. Cooper’s loss has left the franchise bare-bones after injuries to wideouts Michael Gallup and James Washington.
The former 4th-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Tony Pollard, will be playing his 4th NFL campaign next season. While being an understudy of starting RB Ezekiel Elliott, Pollard has been waiting in the wings for his opportunity. After Elliott was out with an unforgiving knee injury last season, Pollard could finally stretch his legs.

Last season, Pollard ended up recording career-high numbers on his stat sheet. He recorded 719 rushing yards, 39 catches, and 337 receiving yards. But as a new season beckons, Elliott seems to be back healthy for McCarthy’s plans. While he will not continue at his regular position in 2022, McCarthy will try out his own ‘wide back’ plan.
Dallas Cowboys need Tony Pollard to step up in a new role
Pollard seems to be sensing an opportunity for himself and has been working on a few individual drills for his evolution. While talking about his new possible role, he seems optimistic about his chances at the wide receiver position. There is a hunger within the Cowboys’ RB to take any opportunity which allows him to play.

While talking about Pollard, McCarthy states, “I think he has that respect as a perimeter player. But if you break them down, as defenses have done and will continue to focus on, you look at his route tree, so we’ve got to be in tune with that. Are we just going to play him out there and run a couple of things or is he going to be a legitimate receiver threat? Those are things that you look at and work on in the offseason, and Tony has those characteristics and capabilities to do all that.”
The franchise will raise the ante for Pollard in 2022 as he will enter the final year of his rookie deal.

McCarthy will be looking for his version of San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel in Pollard. It will be a challenging season for the Cowboys, who would hope their makeshift changes lead to permanent results.
