Ahead of the 2020 NFL season, Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys were involved in lengthy contract extension talks. The fourth-year quarterback was offered a multi-million four-year contract extension by owner Jerry Jones.

However, Prescott declined. He was pushing for a three-year contract and was not willing to give the Cowboys a longer commitment.

In the end, Prescott agreed to play the 2020 NFL season on a franchise tag worth $31.4 million. However, after Sunday’s devastating injury, Dak’s future with the Cowboys could now be up in flames.

Jerry Jones is adamant that Dak Prescott will remain in Texas

Despite his season-ending ankle fracture, Jones maintained that Dak Prescott will remain the face of the Cowboys franchise in the coming years.

He said, “Absolutely not. Absolutely not. He’s our future. If anyone can overcome anything it’s Dak. This is something that our doctors feel good that he’ll overcome and come back better than ever.

“We feel very good that he can come back better and stronger than ever,” Jones told 105.3 The Fan via the team’s official website.

Jones has been a strict negotiator as far as player contracts are concerned. He could use this injury as leverage in future contract talks with Prescott and his entourage.

Dak was brilliant for the Cowboys over the last four weeks; however, this unfortunate incident can have lingering effects on his NFL career.

Dallas Cowboys chief confident that Prescott will come back stronger

Jones was asked to comment on Dak’s injury after the game on Sunday. Here’s how he responded. “I know this young man very well. I know the personal hardship and strife that he has faced, dealt with, and overcome in his young life.

“And I know of no one who is more prepared, from the perspective of mental and emotional toughness and determination, than Dak Prescott to respond and recover from this challenge that has been put in front of him.

“He is an inspiration to everyone he touches. He has all of our love and support. And we have no doubt that he will return to the position of leadership and purpose that he brings to our team,” Jones said after Sunday’s game.

The Cowboys will rely on Andy Dalton to step up and take charge of the offense for the rest of the ongoing season. Dalton was the starter for the Bengals last season; therefore, he is more than equipped to lead ‘America’s Team’ to glory. In fact, Head Coach Mike McCarthy will expect the 32-year-old to lead his team to the Playoffs this year.

The Cowboys are on a 2-3 record at the moment and are slated to take on the Kyler Murray-led Arizona Cardinals in Week Six. They will subsequently travel to the national capital to take on Ron Rivera’s Washington Football Team on October 25, 2020.
