Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback Dak Prescott is all set to get his stitches removed on Monday, before their game against the New York Giants on Tuesday. They initially set Prescott to be out for six to eight weeks, but after attending Thursday’s practice session in a limited capacity, hopes are high for an early return.

Prescott injured his right thumb in week one while facing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In two consecutive plays, Prescott’s hand slammed into Bucs’ linebacker, Shaq Barrett. On the next down, he played a screen pass to Ezekiel Elliott and headed for the sidelines because he could no longer grip the ball properly.

Thursday’s practice limited Prescott to softball -esque training balls, but avoiding throwing footballs and taking snaps. The team is confident that the star QB can make a comeback as early as week 4.

Fans on Twitter, however, are not amused by this news. Many believe that an early return could cause further problems for the QB and the team. Some even compared it to Denver BroncosRussell Wilson’s disastrous early comeback.

Some fans are adamant the Cowboys are better off without the QB, placing their trust in the secondary Cooper Rush. Incidentally, Cooper Rush is undefeated as a starting QB, so the fans’ faith might not be ill-placed.

According to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, a speedy recovery and Rush providing an excellent performance against the Giants will be the best news for the Cowboys. And this is not a new theory.

Earlier this week, Jones, appearing on 103.5 The Fan said, “If we thought he wasn’t going to be ready to go until after four games, we would put him on IR. We’re not doing that. We think he can come in and play, so we don’t want to not have him out there practicing.”

The Cowboys face a Giants team that hasn’t conceded more than 20 points in their 2 victories yet. And the Cowboys did not score more than 20 in their only win in 2 games. It will certainly not be easy. The Cowboys’ defense and offense will be under immense pressure to manage the ever-towering Giants.
