Quarterback Dak Prescott couldn’t secure a fresh long-term contract with the Dallas Cowboys. Instead, he would play for them this upcoming season on a franchise tag, worth $31.4 million. He signed the tender in June.
His previous four-year deal came to an end early this year. And it seems that the Cowboys want to test the 26-year-old QB’s abilities for another year to gauge whether he fits their expectations or not.
Only then will they decide whether to sign him.

Dak Prescott may create history
But what if Prescott ends up winning Super Bowl this year? How would the Dallas Cowboys react?
Kevin Wildes, a prominent sports analyst and writer, believes that Dak will eventually become the NFL’s global face as he is on his way to secure a Super Bowl title next season.
A player who hasn’t been offered a long-term deal by his club goes on and plays a crucial role in helping that same club win the biggest football event. That would be sort of a fairytale.
And that’s why Wildes predicted that if such a thing happens in the near future, Dak may become the highest-paid quarterback in the league.
Wildes appeared on First Things First and said, “He’s a rich man, as we talk about the success that the Cowboys should have this year if they get to the Super Bowl. And they win the Super Bowl, you’ll be torn here.
“Because here is what I think happens. If the Cowboys win the Super Bowl, I think Dak Prescott not only becomes the highest-paid player in NFL history, he probably becomes the face of the NFL. He’s minted for life.
“If he can bring the Cowboys a Super Bowl victory, he’s good and he’s the new face for the NFL across the globe.”

Prescott, with his franchise tag, won’t be able to negotiate any new contract with the Cowboys until next year. This is because the NFL forbids clubs and players on the franchise tag from discussing fresh contract talks during the regular season.
The deadline set for Dak Prescott along with other franchise tags in the league was July 15. However, neither party seemed interested to pen down a deal.
If they still don’t agree on a deal next year, Prescott will become a free agent. Now, it remains to be seen if Prescott registers a Super Bowl victory.

And if that were to happen, he’ll undoubtedly have secured a long-term spot on the Cowboys’ roster.
