Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott was given a metaphorical scolding by the NFL via a $25,000 fine for encouraging rowdy fan behavior. During his post-game presser, Prescott did agree and explained he understands why the fans were upset with the referees. The dissent from fans and Dak comes following their 23-17 loss to the San Francisco 49ers at the AT&T Stadium.

The loss at home to the 49ers did see the Cowboys respond late on, but it was too little too late. While talking about rowdy fan reactions during the press conference, Prescott states, “I mean, if they weren’t at us and the fans felt the same way as us, and if that’s what they were doing it for, then yeah, I guess that’s why the fans … I guess it’s why the refs took off and got out of there so fast.

Possibly in a state of disappointment following a loss, Dak was in agreement regarding the blame for loss falling on the referees. Though since then the Cowboys QB did issue an apology on social media while reverting to his statements.

What’s next for Dak Prescott and the Cowboys?

The statement by the Cowboys QB does state that he is respectful of the officials and the difficulties that come with it. He also did agree that the safety of everyone within the stadium is of paramount importance. He does believe they did not get a fair opportunity on the final play of the game. The most raucous reaction from fans did come following the Cowboys being unable to complete a play before game clock expiration.

But the reaction was not only about the outcome of the game but about their drought. The drought of not appearing in the Super Bowl every year is really something that the Cowboys Nation wants the team to compete within. Their loss against the 49ers marks the 27th consecutive season they aren’t in the NFL’s prestigious game.

Following a disappointing 2020 campaign, the Cowboys did put up a great 2021 season. But the regular-season success formula didn’t quite translate to postseason success. So it will be back to the drawing board for a team hoping to make strides next season.
