The Los Angeles Rams face a lot of problems, highlighted by their 3-6 record in 10 weeks. But Saturday night’s loss against the Arizona Cardinals may just have opened up another wound too large to seal. Rams’ leading receiver Cooper Kupp will miss the next 4 games at least, owing to a high ankle sprain. The surgery and rehabilitation will last 4 weeks minimum, which is an enormous blow to the Rams’ offensive capabilities.

Rams’ head coach Sean McVay broke the news during Tuesday’s press conference. While he did not declare Kupp’s injury as season-ending but did confirm the reigning Super Bowl MVP will be on IR for the next 4 weeks. “It’s significant,” McVay says. “But what we got to be able to do is say, alright, let’s put our heads together, let’s figure out who we’re playing with, you know, what do those guys do well?

“How do we make sure that the plan is in alignment with that and continue to try to just really pour into these guys and develop them and help them play to the best of their ability with an enjoyment and you know, seeing if you can put them in positions to enjoy the odds to be able to make some plays and go compete as well as they possibly can.” The HC concluded.

The injury of Cooper Kupp can have severe Ram-ifications for a struggling LA

The Rams‘ 3-6 run is not very impressive, especially given they are the defending Super Bowl champions. Adding to that, Kupp’s injury is not a good sign of things to come. Although the expected recovery time is 4-6 weeks, the Rams might just bench him for the rest of the season. Being unable to play for such a long period will effectively tear apart Kupp’s season. And if the Rams fail to put up a decent performance in the next 4-6 games, then they should opt to rest Kupp. Let him recover and come back in full condition next season.

Kupp’s injury is just another one in a long line of injuries plaguing the Rams’ offensive line. Offensive lineman Alaric Jackson is out for the rest of the season, and offensive guard Chandler Brewer is on IR. This makes the Rams’ offense very weak. Not to forget, QB Matthew Stafford is still in concussion protocol. But McVay suggests the team will have a clearer picture of the QB soon.
