NFL franchise Dallas Cowboys and analyst Skip Bayless seem to be on the same page about wide receiver Amari Cooper. Bayless was supporting the franchise’s move to release the wideout while stating doubts about the lack of his good performances. It was a damning verdict from the Undisputed show analyst about the Cowboys WR, who is getting released to clear out $16 million and add much-needed cap space this offseason.

The Cowboys owner Jerry Jones seems to be offloading the mammoth contracts on his books to retain all his star players. The move to either trade or release Cooper seems to be about solving their cap problems and not on his on-field performances. The Cowboys QB Dak Prescott formed a formidable partnership with the 27-year-old wide receiver.

Cooper has had an impact on the Cowboys’ scoring averages and on Prescott’s passer rating since joining the team three years ago. But Bayless doesn’t seem to be convinced with his performances, and he recently tweeted stating, “Amari Cooper had his moments, especially after the Cowboys traded for him in 2018…Often disappeared on the road. Motor never matched talent. Jerry overreacted (to Wash’s offer), way overpaid him. I will not miss him.

Is trading or releasing Amari Cooper the best move?

The Cowboys are $21 million over the salary cap for the next season and that can get problematic as things stand. Apart from Dallas, two other NFL franchises like New Orleans Saints and Green Bay Packers are the biggest sufferers from the cap space issues next season.

While cutting him will financially be significant, Cooper is still entering his prime years as an NFL player. But cutting the wideout would add more pressure on their other WR CeeDee Lamb, to step up and carry the load offensively. Though they enter the 2022 NFL season as favorites to win the NFC East, it will be a gaping hole for the Dallas offensive side.

While choosing this scenario, Dallas has made their choice of looking for a young wide receiver in the upcoming draft. They would be letting go of QB Prescott‘s favorite receiver target and hoping to sign one of the free-agent wide receivers. The Cowboy Nation will be looking on and hoping for some moves to ensure they can compete next season.
