The former legendary cornerback made a shift in his career and became a successful college football coach. After his brilliant years at Jackson University, Deion Sanders decided it was time for him to make bigger moves. Thus, he took the job to guide the Colorado Buffaloes. His unexpected transition wreaked havoc in the minds of people, especially the HBCU advocates. Despite criticisms, the Hall of Famer brought a top-tier, four-star prospect to Colorado. It looks like the Prime Time Era has started.

Before Sanders’ name was associated with the university, the condition of their football team was deplorable. The Buffs have not won a single postseason game in two decades. Additionally, its last first-round pick in the NFL Draft was taken in 2011, when Nate Solder and Jimmie Smith teamed up. Colorado was a high-performing unit in the 1990s, but now they are an unfortunate team that holds a sad record of 1-11.
Deion Sanders’ effect is making young players decommit
Deion Sanders’ success at JSU has been impressive. He became the most powerful name in the world of college football. At Jackson State, Sanders has a 26-5 (83.4%) record through his first three seasons. His club has won every game in the Southwestern Athletic Conference for the past two seasons. This is the type of energy Colorado is expecting from the 55-year-old coach.
Now that the former San Francisco 49ers cornerback became the official coach of the Buffs, star prospects are pouring in to join his squad. One such powerful player is Dylan Edwards, who initially planned to commit to Notre Dame. He decommited from the Irish only after paying an in-home visit to head coach Marcus Freeman and running backs coach Deland McCullough.

But the running back stated the two-time Super Bowl winner’s influential impact on himself and other players. “I know a lot of guys that are about to flip their commitments…Nobody is safe in this situation recruiting-wise. Coach Deion’s plan here is worth coming to look at, and recruits are going to want to do that.”
Coach Prime is changing the course for Colorado
Edwards ranked No. 192 in the 2023 class in the 247Sports Composite. He will be the first four-star recruit to sign with Colorado since 2020. Also, he is the 12-highest-rated talent to commit to CU. Therefore, it won’t be long before the institution sees other top-tier players committing to the University of Colorado.

Sanders was responsible for bringing Travis Hunter, a former five-star prospect and the top overall player in the Class of 2022, to JSU. The move made him a dominant Power 5 coach. It is no wonder that Hunter will also join the transfer portal.
