Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been a name synonymous with NFL franchises in times of need in the past. Despite this fact, Kaepernick has been an afterthought for all of them. The former Niners QB hasn’t played for an NFL franchise since the 2016 campaign. He could be a helpful injury replacement for a team with a big-name QB and within the right system.

In 2019, a major injury blow for the Kansas City Chiefs was in their QB department. It was QB Patrick Mahomes and his knee injury, which was a major concern for the fan base. Head coach Andy Reid would have been considering his options with Mahomes being out and Kaepernick a no-brainer replacement. Some outlets were reporting that the former Super Bowl finalist will be the perfect fit for the Chiefs QB position.

Reid was well known for his use of the West Coast-style offense throughout his career. Kaepernick was the ideal fit after playing in the West Coast offense as the Niners QB. He became an expert in running the system under former head coach Jim Harbaugh. The former Nevada alum and Reid share a common bond in coach Chris Ault. He is the common connection and was an integral individual for their growth.

But the 2018 league MVP did make a miraculous recovery. Mahomes came back after missing only two regular-season games. The main reason behind Mahomes making a quick recovery has been because he has loose ligaments. The knee construction of Mahomes is unique because he has double joints. His kneecap dislocation injury only led to damage to one of his ligaments and made his comeback a reality.

Despite calls for his comeback, Kaepernick was never given his opportunity, and there are reasons behind Reid not capitalizing on this opportunity. It appears that Kaepernick’s past actions as an NFL player significantly were compromising his future. Both Mahomes and Kaepernick share the same skillet and the latter would have been an important backup player.

The former Niners QB could have possibly become a Super Bowl champion.

While the franchise passed on him, the Chiefs fans would have been looking forward to such an exciting season. But the 2022 NFL campaign seems to be hinting at Kaepernick making his much-anticipated come back next season.
