Former NFL player and social activist Colin Kaepernick has made his way to the headlines once again. The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback has managed to stay relevant with his Netflix six-part series “Colin in Black & White”, focused primarily on Colin’s formative years as a young football prospect, while systemically addressing prevalent racism in the game.
The series went on to create controversy, as Colin Kaepernick compared the NFL Combine to the ‘slave era’.
Now Kaepernick is dropping a new graphic comic memoir on us and already went on to criticize his adoptive parents. Colin accused his white adoptive parents of ‘perpetuating racism’ in their household, but his reasoning behind this opinion managed to offend former MMA fighter and US Army veteran Tim Kennedy.

Kennedy slams Kaepernick
Rick and Teresa Kaepernick, a white couple from Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, adopted a baby boy that grew up to be known as Colin Kaepernick. Colin was four when the family moved to California, where Colin spent most of his childhood.
In a recent interview with CBS’ Adriana Diaz, Kaepernick said, “I know my parents loved me, but there were still very problematic things that I went through. I think it was important to show that, no, this can happen in your home, and how you move forward collectively while addressing the racism that is being perpetuated.”
Kaepernick based his opinion on this particular hairstyle he used to have, “‘Your hair is not professional, you look like a little thug’. But it also has informed why I have my hair long today.”
There is a scene in Colin’s Netflix series, depicting the exact incident that Kaepernick alludes to here.
His comments however ended up rubbing former MMA fighter and U.S. Army veteran, Tim Kennedy, the wrong way.
Kennedy took to Twitter to air his frustrations, “I bleached my hair when I was in high school and my dad told me I look like an idiot. He told me that nobody would hire me. He told me that colleges would laugh at me during interviews. I guess he was just perpetuating racism and didn’t want the best for me”

Colin Kaepernick was one of the first few athletes to ‘bend the knee’. He started sitting out during the national anthem prior to the 49ers’ preseason games in the 2016 season, something that went unnoticed for a long time.
After being called out by San Francisco beat writer Jennifer Lee Chan, Kaepernick upped the anti. Days after the incident Kaepernick knelt down instead of sitting out during the national anthem.
He went on to justify his actions by saying, “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses Black people and people of color, To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way.”

Many other players went on to join Kaepernick, in support of kneeling to raise awareness for racial inequality and social justice.
