Colin Kaepernick’s Gulf War Surviving Girlfriend Once Made an Unexpected Remark on 9/11: “It Didn’t Surprise Me At All”

Colin Kaepernick’s girlfriend Nessa Diab is a radio and television personality, and an activist. Presently, she is most commonly known as Kap’s biggest supporter. Diab has been with Colin through all his ups and downs in his career and has publicly expressed her support for all his views and initiatives.

Being an activist, Nessa understands Kaepernick’s mindset and views about the social justice issues he has been trying to tackle. Her ethnicity and upbringing, in some very difficult circumstances during her childhood, shaped her views regarding activism.

Nessa’s stay in the Middle East influenced her views

Nessa’s middle eastern ethnicity has shaped her views profoundly. Born in California, she and her family moved to Saudi Arabia because of her father’s endeavors. Much of Nessa’s formative years in the 90s happened in Saudi. At a time, the region was reeling in the aftermath of the Gulf War.

She recollected going to school in Saudi, saying, “I was a young girl fearing for my life– I wore gas masks to school. I heard war sirens constantly and I knew at this point I had to break out of this lifestyle.”

Her memory of the suffering and despair during her stay in Saudi Arabia, affected by war, shaped much of her outlook on life, community, and activism. Nessa stayed in the Middle East during a war period and witnessed firsthand the mass perception of the people about the Western part of the world.

These led her to make the most unexpected remarks about the events of 9/11. She said, “When 9/11 happened, it didn’t surprise me at all. Wow. Mmkay. This is what we went through, probably, every couple months.” Another time, she had mentioned the difficulty faced by her parents in finding jobs despite being educated.

Nessa started creating music when she was quite young. She once said, “I used to remix songs and even had one of my remixes played on air BEFORE I was officially in radio.” The remix was called ‘Rydaz’ of the Destiny Child song ‘Soldier’. She previously worked on New York’s Hot97 as well.

Kaepernick and Nessa probably met in 2015 for the first time and confirmed their relationship in 2016. The activist has been his staunchest supporter in every initiative taken by Kap. She even requested the NFL world to understand the 49ers’ QB’s message before anything else. Nessa has frequently mentioned how proud she is of Kaepernick because of his public stand.

Nessa’s journey from Saudi to being a renowned television personality/activist has been quite a journey. Her difficult circumstances over the most formative time of her life have played a significant role in her views and opinions of the world.
