Cleveland Browns have put Kareem Hunt in a dilemma. The RB is holding in while hoping that he gets a contract extension from the Browns or even better, a trade. But the Browns have told him that the trade is off the table. Considering Hunt’s desire to join another team, this would sting but the RB wouldn’t look to hold back.

Moreover, Hunt is not participating in the team drills taking place at the training camp before the pre-season begins in the second week of August. This comes amidst contract negotiations with the Browns where the athlete was looking to get a bigger and better deal. However, there is no headway on either front for the running back Kareem Hunt.

In addition, Hunt is in the final year of a two-year, $13.25 million extension. The RB spent the last three seasons with Cleveland. He recorded 841-yard, a six-touchdown season in 2020. Further, after signing the extension in the 2021 offseason, he was healing from injuries and just played eight games in the 2021 season.

The 27-year-old has not performed the way he did in his rookie season in 2017 and the Browns are hoping that he would do that soon enough. But Hunt’s request for trade comes as a surprise to the management and they have outrightly denied his request. The future for both looks in perils but only time will tell if Hunt will continue playing for the Browns.

Why are Cleveland Browns not taking their chances with Kareem Hunt?

The Browns have considerable reason to not play around with Kareem Hunt. Recently, the team underwent massive changes with their star QB Baker Mayfield being traded to the Carolina Panthers. It could be the case with Kareen as well. Mayfield did not play many games in 2021 due to injury and later requested a trade. Hunt wants to follow the same path probably but the story is written a bit differently and not everything can be revealed by the player or the team itself.

Moreover, the Browns are coming out of turmoil with Deshaun Watson’s misconduct allegations. Although he has settled the allegations against him, the Browns would want to give some time to the people around the team to settle in.

Therefore, Kareem Hunt’s disappointment is likely to continue in the offseason and with the pre-season kicking in. Who knows what’s going on in the RB’s mind but if he is adamant about getting a trade, a polarizing story could be on the cards.
