The Carolina Panthers lost running back Christian McCaffrey to an ankle injury during their 33-10 loss against the Miami Dolphins on Monday. The left ankle injury picked up by McCaffrey was later reported to be season ending for the RB. It is now going to be a nightmare for the 5-7 Panthers to lose a valuable back in a decisive moment like this.

According to head coach Matt Rhule on Monday, the X-Ray report revealed little about the injury and it was not too severe. However, the MRI scan, later on, revealed that the damage was severe enough to put the running back on the sidelines for the rest of the season.

Panthers lose Christian McCaffrey to a season-ending injury

The Panthers following the setback of their lead running back, head towards a bye week. And with Christian missing the rest of the season, he will sit out for five games more games ahead. The 25-year-old has already missed five games earlier this season after picking up a hamstring injury on week 3. He has missed 13 games last season.

McCaffrey after signing a record-breaking four-year extension of $64 million will only play 10 games out of 33 by the end of this season. This brings very little value to the highest-paid running back in NFL history.

During his absence, the Panthers will turn to rookie Chuba Hubbard and Ameer Abdullah to take up the reins of the RB spot. Hubbard played a crucial role when the Panthers lost McCaffrey early in the season. And Abdullah was the one who replaced McCaffrey during Sunday’s game. Although it is yet to be seen who makes the starting spot against the Falcons in Week 14.
