Patrick Mahomes has been the quarterback for Kansas City Chiefs for 5 years. He has helped them win a Super Bowl for the first time in 50 years. He also won the Super Bowl MVP that year. In addition to it, he is the only QB in history to throw 5000 yards and make 50 touchdowns in a single year. The Chiefs went on to the finals in the 2020-21 season too. However, they lost to Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“I didn’t think I was gonna be a professional quarterback until probably after my sophomore year at college. I actually went in thinking I was gonna play football and then I was gonna play baseball as well. And after three years I was gonna play baseball. Um, and then after my sophomore year college, uh, coach Kingsbury, um, he was just like, “I think if you focus on football for uh, one off season that you’ll get drafted”. And I was like it sounds good to me and I focused on it, and the next year I got drafted.” Patrick Mahomes said in an interview with Will Ahmed, the founder of Whoop.

The guy behind the events that changed the life trajectory of Patrick Mahomes is not alien to developing talented quarterbacks. The 43-year-old was a collegiate coach from 2008 to 2018 at various institutions. Currently, he is the head coach of the NFL team Arizona Cardinals.

In his coaching career, Kingsbury coached some novice quarterbacks who later became highly acclaimed by NFL critics. Some of the notable ones include Case Keenum at Houston, Johnny Manziel at Texas A&M, NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes at Texas Tech, and Baker Mayfield at Texas Tech.

After taking over Arizona Cardinals in 2018, he made it to the playoffs in 2021. Right now, the only athlete to be drafted in the first round of both the MLB (2018) and NFL (2019) drafts, Kyler Murray plays under him. NFL peers will hope that he will continue changing the direction of many other up-and-coming NFL players in the coming years.
