As a key contributor to Kansas City’s rising dynasty, Chris Jones seeks assurance as he nears the end of his present deal. Consequently, he chose not to attend the Chiefs‘ obligatory minicamp. Nevertheless, general manager Brett Veach remains optimistic about their situation with the exceptional defensive lineman. That simply holds promising prospects for $503 million QB Patrick Mahomes for a potential relief.

After Chris Jones’ exceptional performance in 2022, Jones is looking for a new deal. However, the Chiefs’ GM is looking positive about contract negotiations, stating there is ample time before camp. The head coach of the Chiefs, Andy Reid, didn’t seem concerned about Jones not being present at the minicamp and expressed his belief that Jones will come to training camp. Meanwhile, Chiefs General Manager Brett Veach was optimistic about reaching a new deal for Jones, citing their seven-year relationship as a source of trust.

GM Brett Veach’s statement from the Twitter handle of Harold R. Kuntz: “Listen, we have a long history together and we have a great relationship with his agent. I mean, these things usually get worked out right before [or] right during the first start of camp so we anticipate the same, and we’ll see how it goes.”

Amid Veach feels positive about the future with Jones as a Chief for the long term, Mahomes supports Jones and wants him to stay on the team, per reports. Jones is unhappy with his current contract, which pays him $19.5 million in base salary for 2023. Despite all, he once stated that he wants to remain with the team.
