The Kyle Shanahan-led San Francisco 49ers shocked the NFL fraternity by trading up to acquire the 3rd-overall pick from Miami Dolphins ahead of the 2021 NFL Draft.
They gave up their 2021, 2022, and 2023 1st-round picks and also threw in a 2022 compensatory 3rd-round pick in exchange to bring in a young quarterback like Zach Wilson or Justin Fields.
The 22-year-old Buckeye Justin Fields led his team all the way to the CFP National Championship final last season. The promising youngster threw for 2,100 yards, with 22 passing TDs against 6 interceptions in 8 games for Ohio State.

However, they succumbed to a humbling defeat in the final at the hands of the Mac Jones-led Alabama Crimson Tide Football Team. But with the 2021 NFL Draft inching closer, all eyes are on Justin Fields.

In an exclusive interview, Ohio State coach Ryan Day gave his views on former quarterback Justin Fields. He said, “Whatever they teach in terms of a scheme, he’s going to pick that up very, very quickly. And he’s very, very competitive.
“So when you combine the talent, the size, the arm strength, his competitiveness, his toughness, his intelligence, it kind of checks all the boxes. If you were trying to design a quarterback, to me, Justin fits that prototype.
“Whether he’s ready-made to be the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft, that’s up to them, every team has to make their own decision. But I know this: Everything you invest in that kid, you’re going to get back. It’s just a matter of the fit.

“Someone’s going to take a shot at him here early in the draft and they’re going to have a franchise quarterback for a long time,” Day said via ESPN.
The Georgia-born athlete is widely tipped to join NFC West franchise San Francisco 49ers this summer. With Trevor Lawrence (Clemson Tigers) set to join Jacksonville Jaguars and Zach Wilson (BYU) close to sign for the New York Jets, Fields is the bookmaker’s favorite to join San Francisco.

However, there is still an outside chance that coach Shanahan and GM John Lynch might move in for someone else. In fact, Shanahan attended the Pro Day of Alabama prospect Mac Jones last week. It will be interesting to see how this story pans out for all parties involved.
