Jerry Jones has come a long way since taking over the Dallas Cowboys in 1989 for a mere $150 million. Maybe he did not have a good run with the trophy count with a 27-year drought separating Jones from the Vince Lombardi trophy. But he has definitely developed over the years in his mental makeup. Something that, he believes, helps him see things clearly.
And at 80, Jones knows his Dallas days are not here forever. So, with his thirty-plus years of experience at the helm of the organization, the billionaire wants to get that Super Bowl as fast as possible. And he will do whatever is necessary to reach that goal.

After buying the Cowboys in the late eighties, Dallas and Jerry won three Super Bowls in the next seven years. However, it’s been bleak ever since. And the ghosts of a fourth Lombardi haunted Jones even more in the hallowed lobby of the Battle House Resistance during his press interview at the Reese’s Senior Bowl, 2023.
On being asked about his decision to part ways with former offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, Jones said that he just had to try something different. Especially after it all came crashing down in the 19-12 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round playoff game this year.
“It’s not at all about what Kellen isn’t or wasn’t. For Kellen, it’s onward and upward. For us, it’s onward and upward. When you’re self-employed, you have to change the mirror. And he has to change. And I know I’m sounding defensive, but if anybody thinks you’re looking at the same guy here at the Senior Bowl that was here 5 years ago, 10 years ago, they don’t know how this works,” Jerry Jones told reporters.
Jerry has tried different things in the past
The media outlets brought up the Cowboys president and GM’s decision to snatch play-calling duties from former coach Jason Garrett and present HC Mike McCarthy. All because Jerry Jones wanted a walk-around head coach. However, after two consecutive 12-5 seasons ending with postseason failure, Jones finally handed the play-calling responsibilities to head coach McCarthy this time. And McCarthy has a plan.

“If you had any idea how many times I’ve changed in thirty years, if you had any idea how many directions I’ve gone in thirty years,” Jones addressed the reporters’ doubts and concerns. Also, the Cowboys hired Brian Schottenheimer as their offensive coordinator a week later and fans weren’t too thrilled.

Jerry thinks Dallas has the team to finally reach the promised land. With Dak Prescott, Dan Quinn, and Mike McCarthy, Jones thinks there is a solid chance this year. And maybe, the 28th time is the charm for the Cowboys owner.
