NFL franchise Carolina Panthers remain desperate for a stable solution for one of the most important positions in the modern game, the quarterback position. While the organization temporarily has QB Sam Darnold ready for the starting job, it appears to be a matter of time before they part ways. Panthers head coach Matt Rhule will have a familiar face in P.J. Walker, as well as rookie 3rd-round, pick Matt Corral in the wings ready to step up.

While talking on the Pro Football Talk’s podcast, Panthers general Manager Scott Fitterer shared his thoughts on their QB room. He states, “Sam is the No. 1 guy right now. He has every opportunity to take it and run with it. We hope he does well.”
The statement from Fitterer would have been tough to hear for all the Panthers fans.

The upcoming NFL season will be a make-or-break season for Darnold as he attempts to keep the Panthers’ starting job. He will be facing significant pressure from the Panthers’ 3rd-round selection QB Matt Corral, who will be keeping a close eye on any openings. GM Fitterer admits the race is open for any player in the QB room who grabs the opportunity with both hands.
Carolina Panthers might keep a close eye on possible trade scenarios
Despite emptying their draft pick reserve for drafting Corral and Darnold, Fitterer is not ruling out moves for QB talent like Jimmy Garoppolo or Baker Mayfield. The Panthers GM wants to make any approach only if they are a significant upgrade on their current players. Both Garoppolo and Mayfield could be lucrative options, who possess the experience and the talent suitable for the Panthers’ offense.

But the injury to key players like running back Christian McCaffrey early on in the campaign never gave Darnold the time to show his talents.
