Former Buffalo Bills and San Diego Chargers d-lineman Marcellus Wiley has maintained a life relatively devoid of violence. Except for the ten years of tackling and one very unfortunate off-field episode last year, Wiley is a man of peace. However, on a recent podcast appearance, the former Fox sportscaster revealed his one true trigger.

So what really wakes the 6’4″ sleeping giant? Wiley came on the ‘About Last Night’ podcast with comedian Adam Ray to discuss the only possible scenario that can make him lose his cool. And it’s not even a gunshot wound. It’s saliva.

What ticks Marcellus Wiley off?

The Pro Bowler played for ten years in the league, ending his playing career with the Dallas Cowboys and the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2006. In 147 starts, the defensive end recorded 320 combined tackles and 44 sacks. He also had 13 forced fumbles and 4 fumble recoveries to his name. However, the physicality was limited to the gridiron.

And it usually is. Wiley even gave up on dark liquor to avoid physical confrontations. Unless, of course, there’s some saliva involved. Marcellus is strictly anti-spitting.

I ain’t gonna drink dark liquor because I don’t need no issues. But now you can’t force me to fight. You can come up to me and do everything except spit on me. If you spit on me, we fight. But other than that. Dog, that’s the worst thing you can do to me. You can shoot at me and if you miss, that’s better than spitting on me. I would rather get shot at than spit on,” Marcellus said.

There’s one more thing Wiley won’t wish for, besides spitting

On a recent episode of the Marcellus Wiley show on the DE’s YouTube channel, he narrated a frightening incident from June 2022.

It presumably would rank higher on the list than spitting. Wiley was in a car accident that caused significant damage to his body.

Marcellus was inside his car waiting at a red light when another vehicle crashed into him after a screeching sound that still resonates with the pass rusher to this day. The sudden jerk knocked Wiley’s head against his steering wheel and his knee hit the console, injuring his neck, back, and knees in the process.

Let’s just say fans were relieved to hear about his recovery. And it’s uncertain if the injuries played a part in his decision to quit the ‘Speak for Yourself’ show on Fox earlier this year. Recently Wiley caused a few headlines when he ripped into former San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick for accusing his parents of perpetuating racism. Besides running his YouTube channel, the former Columbia athlete also frequently appears on the ‘More To It’ podcast from the Dan Patrick Podcast Network.
