Jackson Mahomes’ preliminary hearing, originally scheduled for August 31, has been postponed to October 24 due to the presiding judge contracting COVID-19. This hearing was intended for the prosecution to present its case against Mahomes, with witness testimonies to be heard.
Johnson County District Court Judge Thomas Sutherland, who had overseen previous court proceedings, had initially hoped to proceed with the hearing on Thursday. However, his more severe bout of COVID-19 raised uncertainties about his condition later in the week.
