Former Michigan Wolverines RB De’Veon Smith was let go by the Pittsburgh Maulers for probably the most bizarre reason in the history of football. Who knew choosing pizza over chicken salad can get you fired? According to coach Kirby Wilson, it is a violation of the code of conduct set by him.

The USFL has some strict rules

The United States Football League is attempting to make a comeback after its fall in recent years. But it seems like it has different codes of conduct. Even if the USFL does not give much competition to the NFL, we’ll still have one of the strangest roster cut stories ever.

The Pittsburgh Maulers head coach Kirby Wilson has zero-tolerance for unprofessionalism. He cannot stand any form of disrespect. One may think De’Veon Smith must have done something wrong or he must have stepped out of the line. But the reality is not that brutal. The running back lost his job because of chicken salad. He refused to eat and they refused to play him.

“He crossed a line, so we had to deal with it,” said Wilson. “Line 46 addresses that: Any disrespect of football or members, staff, hotel, etc., will not be tolerated.” It seems like the HC has tougher kitchen rules than the infamous celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay. All Smith wanted was just a slice of pie.

At first, the video looked like a skit from a prank show or something. But it was as real as real gets. The HC will not tolerate you choosing pizza over chicken salad.

“I can tell you what happened exactly,” said Smith. “Me saying. ‘Yes, I don’t eat chicken salad.’ I was like, ‘Is there another option?’ Walked in with pizza. I was like, ‘Can I get a slice of pizza?’ He said, ‘No … Is that gonna be a problem?’ I said, ‘Yes.’ That was all I said. I didn’t say no cuss words, no nothing. That’s all I said.” This Kitchen Nightmare forced De’Veon Smith out of the USFL. Future hopefuls better get their diets in check if they want to play in this league.
