Cam Newton was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in 2011. The Auburn graduate was the first pick in the 2011 NFL draft. He arrived in Carolina with great expectations. As luck would have it, Newton had a spectacular rookie season with the Panthers.
Newton broke the all-time NFL rookie record for passing and rushing yards in his first season itself. He was also the first rookie quarterback in NFL history to throw for 4,000+ yards, consequently breaking Steve Grogan’s 35-year old record.
Cam even went on to win the NFL MVP award in 2015.
