During the opening game of the season, Dallas Cowboys suffered a humiliating loss at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Moreover, their star quarterback, Dak Prescott, fractured his finger. As a result, he required surgery on his finger to recover from the injury.

At first, he was supposed to miss around six to eight weeks. However, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones fueled speculation regarding his return in the week 4 games against the Washington Commanders.

Jerry Jones talks about the return of Dak Prescott

In a recent interview, Jones said, I don’t know that anybody knows [when he’ll be back]. But when he [gets enough strength in his hand], then you’ll probably see some real advancement in his timeline. I don’t know when that is.

Speaking about playing against the Commanders, he said, It really could be a minimum of two weeks up here in my mind [Washington in Week 4]. Now, that’s very optimistic. But he’s got the kind of repair there that will allow him not to have a lot of fear of re-injuring it. It’s just a question of the grip. But it’s a big question.

Later, Jones also revealed that Prescott no longer has stitches on his finger. So, his return will mainly depend on how he grips the ball. Meanwhile, NFL reporter Ian Rapoport dismissed all these claims, as he feels the QB will most likely return on October 16th against the Eagles. According to him, returning for the week 4 game is highly unlikely.

While Dak Prescott is out injured, his replacement Cooper Rush has performed exceptionally well. After losing the first game pretty badly to the Bucs, the Cowboys won back-to-back games against the Bengals and the Giants, respectively.

Seeing this exceptional run, Jones said that he would have to face a ‘dilemma’ regarding the quarterback position once Prescott returns. “If he comes in here and plays as well as Prescott played, Rush played that well over these next games. I’d walk to New York to get that,” Jones said.

Meanwhile, Rush only started the second game of his career against the Bengals where he had a touchdown. Even if Prescott returns, it will be interesting to see if he continues to lead the Cowboys.
