Mac Jones, in his rookie year, has been simply belligerent for the New England Patriots. Of course, he has not filled the shoes of the legendary Tom Brady, but his performances have been really good until recently.

Mac Jones has been amazing, but at the end of the day, he is still a rookie

In the first half of the season, the decision to make Mac Jones the starting QB seemed like a masterstroke as the rookie was giving match-winning performances left and right. However, of late, his performances have dipped which was evidently seen against the Indianapolis Colts, thus showing that he is a rookie at the end of the day.

In the latest episode of HBO’s ‘Hard Knocks’, Colts linebackers coach Dave Borgonzi tells exactly this to his players. As good as he is, he simply doesn’t have the experience.  “He’s a good player. He’s accurate and everything. But he’s a rookie, so he’ll do some things like this,” Colts linebackers coach told his players.

Revealed! Colts’ game plan to neutralize Patriots QB’ threat

Last week, the Indianapolis Colts stunned the Patriots with a dominating 27-17 victory. Mac Jones in particular was lackluster, as he only threw for 299 yards with multiple interceptions. Back then, it felt like the rookie was out of form, but the latest episode of ‘Hard Knocks’ paints a different picture.

In the latest episode, defensive line coach Brian Baker and head coach Frank Reich were seen asking the players to pressurize the rookie QB more to make him commit mistakes. “We really want this guy to be anxious about people in his face,” Baker said. “It’s to pressure him, to make him hurry up everything. He has to feel this anxiety the entire game.”

“I’m just telling you, I know this is true: For us to go where we want to go, let’s make this rookie QB feel something that he hasn’t felt from a defense before,” Reich said. “Let’s get after this rookie quarterback.”
