NFL franchise Tampa Bay Buccaneers seems to be gearing themselves up for more outgoings and that includes running back Leonard Fournette. The retirement of QB Tom Brady and the emergence of vacant spots on the roster seem to be a factor. The team is heading towards a rebuilding project. They have more questions than answers as they approach ever closer to free agency.

He was initially drafted with the 4th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars franchise. The player was a vital cog for the Buccaneers’ offense during Tom Brady’s first and Super Bowl-winning season in 2020.

Fournette led them on all three downs and accepted his role as a full-time back in 2021.

He posted a vague farewell message on Instagram with a couple of pictures in the Buccaneers uniform. The whole caption was in past tense and seems to fuel more speculation surrounding his NFL future with the organization.

The Super Bowl-winning Buccaneers team was always bound to split up eventually but somehow became the first championship squad to bring back all 22 starters since the 1970s. The franchise did pull out all the stops to retain some of their star players like Chris Godwin, Shaquil Barrett, Lavonte David, and many others.

Apart from Fournette, who will be a free agent, Ronald Jones II, and Giovani Bernard will be joining him. The potential exodus of Buccaneers RBs leaves only Ke’Shawn Vaughn as the only running back under contract.

The possibility of the Bucs bringing Fournette back is real. But he seems prepared to test the market first for the demand for his services.

Tampa Bay has a job at their hands as they will be putting nearly 23 players including Fournette, on the line in the upcoming free agency period. It seems Brady nicknamed ‘Lombardi Lenny’ will not be coming back for more Tampa Bay magic and Bucs fans do face an uncertain future.
