With the NFL Draft starting in less than 24 hours, potential 1st pick candidate Bryce Young could not let the height questions linger in people’s minds. The quarterback position is undoubtedly the most important spot on the gridiron. And there has been tons of speculation around Bryce manoeuvring the pocket without standing at an ideal QB height. During an interview from Kansas City, one day before the draft, the Alabama Crimson Tide signal-caller put the 5-foot-10 questions to rest, once and for all.

Ever since his stellar sophomore year, Bryce Young, to some extent, shut down all the chatter about his shorter frame. He scored 47 touchdowns in his 2021 Heisman-winning campaign, following it up with 32 TDs in his junior year. As the 21-year-old prepares to enter the draft after foregoing his senior year, he had a hilarious answer about his height for all concerned team owners.

Bryce’s idol, KC’s Patrick Mahomes, stands at 6-foot-2. However, Young is confident in his abilities despite his height not matching up to fellow draft prospects like Kentucky’s Will Levis, Florida’s Anthony Richardson, and Ohio State’s CJ Stroud.

I don’t know how to play the game another way. Been this size relative to the people around me my entire life. I focus on what I control, and I can’t grow. That doesn’t fall into that category. I can’t get any taller. And I focus on myself. I’m confident in myself with what I’ve been able to do and I’m excited for the work it’s going to take,” Bryce told reporters, as per the video from the Charlotte Observer’s Scott Fowler.

Irrespective of the height, the Carolina Panthers, who secured the first draft pick in a trade from the Chicago Bears this offseason, seem to be set on bringing Bryce Young under the center.

Panthers are confident about Bryce Young, citing Russell Wilson’s example

Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer had a curt response to all the Bryce Young height questions that reporters threw at him during a pre-draft press conference on Tuesday. “When Russell Wilson came out, he had three balls batted down his senior year; Bryce had two,” he told the media representatives. Fitterer was responsible for drafting present-day Broncos QB Russell Wilson, during his time at the Seattle Seahawks‘ front office. And Wilson went on to win a Super Bowl in 2014, followed by another appearance in the final in 2015. “It doesn’t seem to be an issue. When you grow up a shorter quarterback, you learn how to evolve your game and adapt and see the field. And he’s [Bryce] done that,” Fitterer added.

Danger Russ isn’t the only starting quarterback in the league falling under the 6-feet limit. Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray is 5-foot-10. However, experts think Murray’s speed gives him an upper hand over Bryce Young. Super Bowl champion former Saints quarterback Drew Brees also barely made the 6-feet mark. Clearly, the quarterback’s height becomes a less important factor with the correct mindset and the championship-winning drive. Something Bryce is amped and ready to do.
