A reporter asked Brian Gutekunst, after Aaron Rodgers said everything he did a couple of years ago and then came out a couple of weeks ago saying you went behind his back to shop him, how did the last couple of months transpire from your perspective?

Brian Gutekunst responded, “I didn’t really take his comments like that and it’s certainly not true.”

As per Brian, we had a good conversation after the season, but as we were unable to reach him in order to get any response, I had to do my job and reach out to see who was interested in potentially trading for him. Shopping for him was never part of that.

“I was really looking forward to the conversations with Aaron to see how you fit into that.”, per Brian.

Brian also mentioned that they had intended for Rodgers to play beyond the last season, but after a disappointing season and failed attempts to have conversations with him, the team had to make some decisions.

Confusion surrounds the truth of the situation

Gutekunst shed some light on the team’s thought process. Rodgers representatives informed the team that Rodgers wanted to be traded to the Jets when the team attempted to reach out.

“We went through his representatives to try to kind of talk to him about where we’re going with the team and at that time they informed us they would like to be traded to the Jets.” the Green Bay Packers GM stated.

Gutekunst’s frank discussion has left fans wondering what the future holds for the Packers without their star quarterback at the helm.
