Bruce Arians, who mentored the Buccaneers to the Super Bowl LV triumph only around 14 months back, steps down from the role. He will take a front-office role at the club. Arians adds to the craziest, most news-filled NFL offseason in contemporary postseason history. After the announcement, Tampa Bay left no time to announce his successor, Todd Bowles.

Coach Bruce Arians’ statement

While many people expected it, it didn’t come as an enormous surprise. As Bruce Arians moves to the team’s front office as a senior football consultant, he makes a statement. The coach spent 50 years on the sidelines in a mentoring position, now making a big shift in his illustrious career. He thanks the Glazer Family and GM Jason Licht for the opportunity, and he is excited to still be a part of the Bay.

Arians stated in his statement that he intended to shift during the initial offseason phase. He also clarifies that he retired because he was convinced that it was the right time for Bowles to succeed, and not because of his failing health.

He mentions, “I really began thinking about my personal transition plan earlier this offseason. I wanted to ensure when I walked away that Todd Bowles would have the best opportunity to succeed. So many head coaches come into situations where they are set up for failure, and I didn’t want that for Todd.”

While a good deal of people may believe this move may be a connection with Tom Brady having a feud with the Coach. He has denied any such possibilities, and mentions that he has a “Great relationship off the field.” However, he acknowledges the fact that the un-retirement of Tom Brady made him pursue retirement.

Arians, who will turn 70 this season, led the Buccaneers to their first Super Bowl title in 2020; Tom Brady’s first with the team. In three seasons with the Bucs, Arians were 31-18, and in his eight years as a head coach, he was 80-48-1.

An enormous opportunity for Todd Bowles?

Following Tom Brady’s return for his third season with the Bucs looks like the best time. Todd Bowles now has the best chance of success. The new HC would be in his second stint as a head coach. He previously spent four seasons with the New York Jets. During this same time, he had a 24-40 record. But besides a 10-6 record his first year, he failed to make the playoffs. Bowles’ value has increased since the Jets fired him, thanks to his success in Tampa Bay, which also included a Super Bowl ring in his season 2.
