When the Cowboys and the Giants met this week on Thanksgiving Thursday afternoon football, the NFL recorded its highest regular-season viewership in the history of the league. The Dallas Cowboys’ victory on Fox was viewed by a record average of 42 million people.
This year, the three Thanksgiving football games also set a record-high average viewership of 33.5 million, leaving behind the previous 32.9 million high number from 1993 Thanksgiving games. This year’s 3 games also surpassed last year’s numbers comfortably. The Minnesota Vikings matchup with the New England Patriots averaged 25.9 million viewers to become the second most watched Thanksgiving Night football game. The 2015 encounter between the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers is still ahead of the Vikings matchup.
Dallas Cowboys and NY Giants battled it out in front of 42 million people
The Dallas Cowboys beat their formidable rivals, the New York Giants, at AT&T Stadium on Thursday afternoon. The Cowboys dominated the second half and won 28-20 against Big Blue. Jerry Jones’ Cowboys had lost seven thanksgiving football games in the last decade. However, Dak Prescott and Co. pulled off a win for America’s team and took them to 8-3 for the season. The Cowboys sit in second place in the NFC East Division.

Prescott threw for 261 yards and completed 21 out of his 30 throws. The Cowboys QB had two touchdowns on the night for Dallas tight end Dalton Schultz. However, the Giants intercepted Dak twice in the first half and almost pulled off an upset at Jerry World.
Dallas wide receiver CeeDee Lamb had 6 receptions and 106 receiving yards as the Cowboys put on a show for 42 million viewers. Thursday afternoon’s game broke the 41.55 million viewers record set by the December 3, 1990, Monday Night football game between the Giants and the San Francisco 49ers.

The Cowboys are legitimate Super Bowl contenders this season and will probably enjoy skyrocketing viewership as the playoffs roll along. Up next, Dak and Co. host Jeff Saturday’s 4-6-1 Indianapolis Colts next Sunday.
