It took over two decades for the Rams to finally break the bad omen. How much longer will it be until the next breakthrough? It has been less than two years since their Super Bowl victory, and the formidable team has now become the underdog, gutting the roster, and making no major changes for the upcoming season. And to top it all off, one of the team’s crucial weapons, Cooper Kupp, now also brings bad news, mere days before the season opener.

The star WR, who missed the last eight games of the previous season due to a high ankle sprain, was expected to make a triumphant return this season. Unfortunately, optimism for the Super Bowl MVP’s comeback has dwindled recently.

The Super Bowl LVI champs are eagerly anticipating their kickoff bout against the Seahawks on September 10th, but Kupp’s presence on the gridiron is in doubt. The Pro Bowler was on track to return from his hamstring injury, which he sustained on August 1st, during the first week of the training camp. He did make progress last week, raising hopes for his availability in the season opener. However, the road to recovery hasn’t been smooth sailing.

Head Coach Sean McVay recently disclosed that the Super Bowl MVP experienced a setback in his rehabilitation, and the team now labels him as “day-to-day.” McVay explained that it was a muscle strain, which prevented Kupp from practicing on Thursday. He emphasized that everyone hoped for Kupp’s full recovery rather than risking reinjury and acknowledged how the team is rather stronger with the Pro Bowler in the lineup.

At this juncture, there are no definitive answers regarding Kupp’s return, as his recovery could span weeks if not months. Adding to the team’s woes are significant departures, particularly CB Jalen Ramsey and LB Bobby Wagner. The loss of wide receivers Allen Robinson and Brandon Powell only worsens the situation.

However, there’s also optimism with some fresh faces joining the team, including Safety John Johnson, and wide receivers Demarcus Robinson and Tyler Johnson showing exceptional potential.

While challenges loom for the Rams as they embark on the new season, hope still flickers among fans. Kupp may miss the kickoff game, but a return before or after week 2 remains a possibility.
