While most NFL teams desire to get their hands on an unprecedented superstar, very rarely do they get an ‘unselfish’ one. Maybe this is where the Kansas City Chiefs got the luckiest nabbing Patrick Mahomes in the 2017 NFL draft. While a lot was said of Patrick Mahomes going into the draft, a phenomenal leader wasn’t one of them. Despite that, Mahomes has proved his value and his unselfish attitude both on and off the field. And, now, it seems he has got a new companion under him.
Mahomes’ achievements on the field are well known, as he led the Chiefs to their second Super Bowl trophy in the last four years but his unselfish attitude away from the game might go unnoticed. Heading into the offseason, Mahomes proved why he is elite, contributing to clear cap space for the team, and allowing them to make further additions to the roster.

In order to replicate their successful Super Bowl-winning season, the Chiefs need a successful off-season. But cap space gets in the way, and no better than Patrick Mahomes to rescue the Chiefs once again.
The franchise converted $12 million of Patrick Mahomes’ 2023 roster bonus into a signing bonus, clearing up $9.6 million in cap room. And then it was time to go get another veteran for their roster.

The Kansas City Chiefs have added veteran quarterback Blaine Gabbert to their ranks, replacing former backup QB Chad Henne. The 33-year-old Gabbert has been in the NFL since 2011. He has spent the last three seasons as Tom Brady’s backup quarterback with Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Chiefs hope that Gabbert will certainly bring around the extensive experience he has accumulated playing behind Tom Brady and would replicate those results in Kansas.
Patrick Mahomes has been particularly dependable for the Chiefs, however, his health has been a matter of concern for many. Maybe it was Mahomes’ injury scare during the previous season that prompted the Chiefs to revamp their roster.

Mahomes and his recovery
Leading up to the Super Bowl game, Patrick Mahomes’ ankle injury was one of the biggest storylines. However, Mahomes was quick to shut down all narratives, soldering through his injury and leading the Chiefs to a sensational win. While Mahomes’ play didn’t give the impression of him being injured, the Super Bowl MVP is still recuperating.
Speaking on his recovery process, Mahomes said, “Now it’s been more about just kind of managing it, getting the mobility back the best that I possibly can, I wouldn’t say I’m 100 percent, but I’ve had no, necessarily, limitations.”
