The Baltimore Ravens have failed to entice Lamar Jackson with a compromise in a long-term deal. For the franchise, it would be a setback if the QB lands up as a free agent. Inevitably, new reports regarding the proposed contract details have come up. The Ravens set Jackson to be among the highest-paid quarterbacks. But the athlete turned down the offer over higher demands.

After Lamar Jackson set Friday as the extension deadline, they could not reach any contractual arrangements. It led to the Ravens posting a new statement about the situation. Although Jackson and the Ravens have kept the specifics of their contractual terms confidential, league insiders estimate the talented QB declined a $250 million proposal.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Ravens reportedly rejected Lamar Jackson’s request for a fully guaranteed contract. The offer included a $133 million fully guaranteed signing bonus, which is more than Russell Wilson and Kyler Murray’s deal. However, it is significantly less than Watson’s $230 million. The denial led both sides to postpone negotiations after the 2022-23 campaign.

Chris Mortensen added the Baltimore Ravens offered Jackson a six-year contract with an excellent average income. The QB also got aggressive help from his mother and the NFLPA. The union told him that given his accomplishments and age; they warranted him in calling for a fully guaranteed salary if that was what he preferred.

Jackson will start playing out the final year of his current deal. He will be a free agent if the team does not sign a long-term contract with him. But only if the Ravens do not use the franchise tag.

Lamar Jackson not putting an exclamation point to the contract talks brings many questions. However, if history is looked upon, a decade ago, Joe Flacco turned down the Ravens’ contract renewal offer. He was entering his fifth season. After leading the Ravens to a Super Bowl victory, the franchise rewarded him with a record-breaking contract. The Ravens could hold their birds on the franchise tag and see how Jackson plays out.

Indeed, Jackson is taking a substantial risk. As a QB, he has a greater chance of getting hurt. However, Jackson’s patience policy has proven to be lucrative. The recent agreements have exceeded the guaranteed money benchmark, and he could get his wish. But will Jackson try the Flacco way? Or will Baltimore bail on the QB? It is open to scrutiny.
