The past week was an emotional one for the NFL world in general, but in particular, for anyone associated with the Buffalo Bills. The franchise almost lost their young safety, Damar Hamlin, on the field against the Cincinnati Bengals. A timely CPR treatment saved Hamlin’s life that day. And due to that, a veteran Bills wide receiver’s genius gesture towards the ‘real superhero’, who saved Hamlin with the CPR, is the talk of the town.

Assistant athletic trainer Denny Kellington was at the center stage before the kickoff of the Bills last regular season game. Although he was publicly honored by the franchise, wide receiver John Brown wanted to do something special.

The Bills wide receiver John Brown scored his first touchdown of the year on Sunday against the New England Patriots. It was a big moment for the veteran who has missed most of the season due to injuries. But that special moment did not matter to him as much as honoring one man standing on the sidelines.

Just after the catch, Brown ran towards the sideline to reach the Bills assistant trainer, Denny Kellington. The WR handed him the touchdown ball as a way to honor him for saving the life of Damar Hamlin the previous week. What a genius gesture!

The Bills head coach, Sean McDermott, had called Kellington a real hero in a press conference earlier.

“For an assistant to find himself at that position and needing to take the action that he did and step up and take charge like he did, and there were others on the field as well, is nothing short of amazing. And the courage that that took – you talk about a real leader, a real hero, in saving Damar’s life,” McDermott had said.

Hamlin underwent extensive treatment at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for cardiac arrest. And he is coming back home after being discharged from the hospital on Monday.
