Jerry Jones is one of the oldest and most respected owners in the NFL. The Billionaire who owns the Dallas Cowboys is a prominent figure worldwide. His humble beginnings and the way he ascended to the top significantly contributed to his prominence.
The Dallas Cowboys are the most valuable sports franchise in the world. They have a value of $6.92 billion. However, when Jerry Jones brought the franchise in 1989, the story wasn’t the same. The Cowboys franchise was money wrecking machine back then, and people doubted Jerry for purchasing them.

In a podcast with Adam Schefter, Jerry revealed how hard it was for him after purchasing the Cowboys. He said, “Very early on, the club was losing money, The Cowboys, that I bought – this is not going to make many people respect me as a business person, but I bought the Cowboys and they were losing $1 million cash a month, $1 million a month.”
Jerry Jones explained in brief how the total losses were so high
Even though the figures stated that the loss was around $1 million, Jerry explained how they were way higher than that figure. He said, “The interest alone on the investment in the club was another X-million dollars, 11 percent interest on the amount that I borrowed, It was a bill of almost $100,000 a day.”
The total amounted to $3 million per month on top of the actual $1 million mentioned above. As per inflation of present times, that would amount to a loss of more than $8 million a month. A total which is quite high for anyone regardless of their wealth.
Jerry Jones made the Cowboys ‘ America’s Team despite their earlier financial struggles.’ As stated above, they are now the most valuable sports franchise. Not only in the NFL but in the world. The question now arises how did Jerry make it possible?

When it comes to the Moneyball method, people tend to compare it with baseball. However, that wasn’t the case here with the Cowboys. Jerry Jones built a team of players who were great at their position, but their market value wasn’t that high.
The defensive players and the offensive line of an NFL team mainly paid way less than the star players like receivers and the quarterback. Jerry guided the team to build a great O-Line and a solid defense through the drafts.

As a result, it laid the foundation for the Cowboys to perform. They had enough money left to pay their quarterback and other prominent players, which they actually did. When the whole team was set, they kept hold of their quarterback, and this is how they achieved success over the years.
