Another loss for the Dallas football community as Janet Hill, wife of former Running Back Calvin Hill, passes away. The Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones issued an official statement on behalf of his family and the franchise. He mourned the loss of Janet Hill, stating that she was a remarkable leader and played a pivotal role in the development of the Cowboys community.

Jerry Jones took to Twitter to share his grief and pay his respects. “We are so saddened to learn of the passing of Janet Hill.” He adds, “First and foremost, she was a wonderful grandmother, mother, wife, and a cherished member of the Dallas Cowboys Family. Janet was also a remarkable leader and role model for many while making an indelible impact on those she knew and worked with.” Jones added.

Janet Hill was more than a football player’s wife for the Cowboys. Her husband, Calvin Hill, played in the NFL from 1969 to 1974. He set his foot with a successful rookie season, winning the Rookie of the Year award with 942 rushing yards and eight touchdowns.

The Yale product played for the Washington Redskins and Denver Broncos in the later stages of his career. Thereafter, in the late 90s, he joined the Cowboys as a consultant. It had been more than 25 years, and the Running Back was serving the team with his wife and had been deeply involved in the community works for a long-time.

Jerry Jones hired Calvin Hill to start a player development program

Pro-football is more than a physical sport and players often tend to be entangled in psychological problems. Having an immense experience of 12 years in the league, Jones found Hill to be a perfect candidate to begin a new player development program.

The main motive behind the program was to help the players deal with pressures and internal conflicts. In today’s social media world, depression is a common disease.

So there was a need for a mentor to provide emotional support to the player. And that’s when Hill and his wife came forward. “He’s obviously very smart and has such credibility with his background with the Cowboys and his background as a player,” Jones said.

“All of those made it probably the easiest hiring I’ve ever done since I’ve been involved with the Cowboys. He’s got a very knowledgeable insight into player issues,” he added. Thus losing Janet Hill is a big blow to the team. Hopefully, Calvin gets the courage to accept reality and move forward with a fresh mindset.
