A division that housed the worst teams in the league, 2 years ago. A division whose winners were 7-9 as they went into the playoffs. That division today is the only one in the league to have 3 teams with 4 or more wins in 5 weeks. The Philadelphia Eagles (5-0), the Dallas Cowboys (4-1), and the New York Giants (4-1) have together brought the NFC East back to being the toughest division in the league. And that is exactly how Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones feels.

Jones recently went on the ‘105.3 The Fan’ radio show. When asked about the resurgence of the NFC East, he said, “I think this, first of all, is the most balanced that I can ever remember [in] the entire NFL.” He adds, “Every time you go out there, you’ve got a fight on your hand and it’s probably going to come down to that type of ballgame where it can go either way. I think that’s what we’re dealing with. Consequently, you’ve got to have that depth because you’ve got to absolutely play all the way through the end of the fourth quarter. There seems to be no let-up in the way this league is balanced and I think that’s what we’ve got in our NFC East.”
Jerry Jones’ Cowboys are among the best in the league with a 4-1 opening record
The performance of all the teams in the NFC East has been nothing short of spectacular. Apart from the Washington Commanders, their 1-4 isn’t really driving the NFC’s domination status. But to think that the Cowboys, Eagles, and Giants were no more than slight bumps in the journeys of other teams in the NFL. What happened to these teams?

Let’s start with the Eagles. After the 2020 season, they fired their head coach, Doug Pederson, and traded their QB, Carson Wentz. The two were not getting along anyway, so the Eagles turned to Nick Sirianni and Jalen Hurts. And boy, has it paid off. 5-0 for only the third time in franchise history, the Eagles are soaring above the rest of the NFL. With a team that looks covered on all fronts, Philly will be a forceful contender for the Super Bowl.

Next are the Giants. If one could pick the single biggest difference between the Giants of old and the Giants of this season, it would be a massive increase in confidence. The fear of making mistakes drove them into making more mistakes. But this season, they’ve practically shed that fear, like a snake shedding its skin. Even though their first few wins were against relatively weaker teams, the Giants turned eyes when they made a stunning comeback against Aaron Rodgers‘ Green Bay Packers. Definitely another championship-contending team.

America’s Team has long been on the short end of jokes. Their performances are always in stark contrast to their status as one of the most well-funded teams. But this year, the Cowboys fielded a staunch defensive lineup. One that helped the team win, even when the offense was not up to it. But their offense has been strong too, even with backup QB Cooper Rush. With Dak Prescott‘s return imminent, the offense is only going to get stronger.

With week 6 games looming around their heads, the teams will be looking forward to extending their good fortunes. As the Eagles face the Cowboys, the stage is set for what could be a potential future NFC championship game. The Giants will face the Baltimore Ravens, a strong team representing AFC North. And will have everything to work for to take themselves up to 5-1. Will we see continued dominance from the NFC East?
