The New England Patriots have not been having the best season. After their most recent loss against the Bills, they have won and lost 6 games. At the center of this team is the head coach, Bill Belichick. He has been trying his best to bolster the season of the team but hasn’t had much success. There have been some outsider comments on the way the Patriots have been playing, especially their offense. The defensive coordinator of the Cardinals, Vance Joseph, had a lot to say about it.

He commented on the nature of the play in a curt manner that caught the ears of Belichick. In response, Belichick fired back at the defensive coordinator. He also went on to explain the situation behind the Patriots’ offense.
Bill Belichick has always held the reputation of an eccentrically excellent coach. He has discovered players and ran team plays that have won him Super Bowls and Best Coach awards. He has a reputation for being one of the greatest coaches of all time. However, with a Patriots season that has been very average, there have been comments raised on the way the coaching staff has been calling shots.
Bill Belichick defends the Patriots’ offense
Vance Joseph mentioned that he feels like the offense that is being run by the Patriots is one that resembles plays being called out by a defensive coordinator. He points towards the offense and calls it conservative in nature. Joseph also said, “it’s like a defensive guy is calling offense.”
When the Patriots’ head coach was asked about Joseph’s comments, he curtly replied, “I don’t know. Whatever he said, he said, so. Ask him about it.” The Patriots’ coach also explained what kind of offense the Patriots are trying to run.

Presently, the Patriots’ offense is being called out by a defensive coordinator. Matt Patricia has been calling the plays of the team. This caused Joseph’s comments to strike a nerve with the Patriots’ coaching staff. However, he had a very straight answer.
He spoke about how the offensive coach’s attitude was to not turn over the ball. Similarly, a defensive coach also wants to protect the ball and that can come off as conservative. He defended the playmaking abilities of the Patriots’ coach and said, “Every coach who’s involved with offense is always in favor of scoring points.”

Belichick went on to speak about how the Patriots’ offense is not out of the ordinary and indirectly referenced how the comments from Joseph were baseless. However, the Patriots have not been doing well as a whole. Therefore, the question that remains is whether Belichick is defensive or if his justification is valid for his team.
