The New Orleans Saints play the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday in New Orleans. The Saints will be without star quarterback Drew Brees, who suffered multiple rib injuries, and a punctured lung. But they can rest easy knowing Alvin Kamara is still ready to go, continuing his fantastic form.
Kamara has been fantastic this season. He’s covered 486 yards on 104 rushing attempts across 9 games this season.
For the Saints, the question of starting quarterback is a looming one. NFL Analysts James Palmer gave his preview for the game. He talked about who can be expected to start as quarterback for the saints.

“On Sunday in New Orleans, all eyes, rightfully so, will be on a quarterback Taysom Hill, who reportedly will start for Drew Brees.
“Even though head coach Sean Payton has not made any announcement about who his starting quarterback will be against the Falcons.”
However, Palmer suggested that they will have plenty of attacking options, none more important than Kamara. “But whoever the quarterback is, they have a plethora of talent around them.
“Last year’s offensive player of the year, wide receiver Michael Thomas, tight end Jared Cook, the veteran receiver Emmanuel Sanders.
“But perhaps it’s this year’s runner for offensive player of the year in Alvin Kamara that might be the big safety blankest.”

Palmer is a big fan of Kamara, who talked about his teammate Jared Cook’s comments about him. “Cook put it best. He said, ‘When Brees has nothing and needs a check done, Alvin Kamara is there to make something happen.
“When it’s third down and he needs a player to beat a linebacker and get extra yards after the catch, Alvin Kamara is there…Whether it’s a sweep or a pitch or a handoff and yards may not be there, Alvin Kamara finds a way to get them’.”
Palmer believes, like many, that the game will come down to Kamara’s battle with Deion Jones of the Falcons. “He’s on pace for more than 800 rushing yards this season and over 1100 receiving yards. No player has ever done that in a season.

“It’s the matchup of him vs Falcons linebacker Deion Jones that a lot of people in this game believe is the key matchup, the winner of that could bode well and get the W on Sunday in New Orleans.”
The Saints have the joint-best start to the season, with a 7-2 record, same as the Green Bay Packers. They will be hoping to continue this streak. Without Brees, that is a challenge. But they have the roster to overcome the loss.
