In the wake of new developments, the Buffalo Bills made an unfortunate move over Matt Araiza. After a lawsuit against the rookie athlete came to light, the franchise cut any ties with the punter. On Saturday, the Buffalo Bills GM and Head Coach Sean McDermott appeared in a press conference. GM Beane announced the release just under 48 hours after a civil lawsuit named Matt Araiza. The Bills’ rookie punter is one of three people in the misconduct charges while being a student at San Diego State University.

Matt Araiza is off the charts

During the media scrum, Beane called the Araiza situation “bigger than football.” Moreover, as per Albert Breer, the GM claims that neither his team nor the NFL was conscious of the reports that Matt Araiza was involved in it before the draft. They also sought ‘double-digit teams’ to see if they knew, but neither of them did.

As per Associated Press, the franchise’s resolution to part ways with the 22-year-old is a stunning turnaround. It is coming only two days after they defended the player based on the outcome of a rigorous investigation of the charges in the complaint. The Bills were reportedly told of the claims in July, but they kept Araiza on their training camp roster.

Matt Araiza getting picked by the Buffalo Bills was like a shocker. He was the 180th overall choice in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Araiza got the name ‘Punt God’ after setting an NCAA record with a 51.2-yard punt average in 2021. He got 62 touchbacks in 73 kickoffs. But Pat McAfee was not digging the moniker as his punt god was someone else — That being Shane Lechler.

McAfee also said he is looking forward to seeing him adapt his punting approach to the League. But Araiza hit a twist of fate and is now off the NFL. Will he get another chance? It is subject to witness.
