Quite similar to sports, musicians also have to face the debate of “Who’s the best?”. And it is often the fans who take things to the extreme. A number of legends have performed at the Super Bowl halftime show over the years, and comparisons are just a natural tendency. Having just performed at Super Bowl 57, Rihanna found herself in a similar situation. Amid criticisms for lipsyncing the songs during her performance, Rihanna also seems to have some admirers.
Rihanna fans have always found themselves at crossroads with Beyonce fans. And even though the singers have a ton of love for each other, the fans harbor different feelings. Another such online confrontation between these similar yet different groups was incited by Beyonce’s former choreographer, Frank Gatson.

Rihanna celebrated her thirty-fifth birthday on 20th February, and Frank Gatson took his opportunity to wish her all the best. In doing so, he also went to applaud RiRi’s Super Bowl performance, claiming it to be one of the best he’s ever seen.

Frank posted on his Instagram “Happy Birthday @badgalriri I have to say. You have done the best Super Bowl of anyone in my book. I always knew you were a true superstar the moment we met. So proud of you. Enjoy your day. I can’t wait to see where you go from here.”

Gatson’s comments acted as a catalyst for all the Beyonce stans, as they soon jumped in to defend their queen. The comments were indeed appreciating Rihanna but were in no way targeted towards Beyonce, this, however, didn’t seem to matter for the Beyonce fans.
Soon Gatson faced a barrage of comments questioning his judgment and opinion.
A user asked, “Not tryna argue, but why was it the best to you? Just curious…”
While another said, “You reaching now you know No one tops Queen 👸 Beyoncé ❤️Happy Birthday Riri”
These were, however, the civil responses he got as some decide to take personal jabs at the man.
“You’ve been hateful as f*ck ever since you started selling B’s routines to JLO back in 2014,” said a user by the name of “cauxkor”.
“How can you be a professional choreographer and call that lazy comatose performance the best ever? Rihanna performed like she showed up that very morning for the first time and quickly learned her steps in 10 mins… this SB wasn’t even in the top 20 of best ever. I am genuinely confused,” another user added.

The respect
Fans are bound to keep arguing back and forth, but the artists draw inspiration from one another. During her recent appearance on Sunday’s episode of iHeart and the NFL’s ‘The Process with Nate Burleson podcas’t, Rihanna revealed herself closely watching Beyonce’s performance.
“I watched Beyoncé’s halftime performances a couple of times. She is a beast and a whole other level. Just to be inspired, really,” the singer said.
