“I had the goal to break that record,” McPherson said after Super Bowl LVI. “We tied it, so that’s cool and all, but it sucks we didn’t win. But I will say I’m honored to be up there with Adam and everything he’s accomplished. All his records are kind of what I’m striving for throughout my career.”
Though missing the Lombardi Trophy by an inch, the 22-year-old has shown exceptional performance throughout his rookie season. He went 14 of 14 field-goal attempts in the playoffs, including two that came during the Super Bowl game itself. His contribution to the team has been very vital to carrying the offense forward.
Had the last drive been close enough, McPherson would have got his shot to the record and Cincinnati would have had the required three points to draw the game.
